Hi Pioneers!

Welcome Back…Its been a week!

Well I hope you are ready for the weekend, because I know I’m ready! I have some news to share to you all about these marvelous t-shirts. They are going to sound even more awesome as you continue you to read.

Let’s Rock n’ Roll

Earlier this year Levi’s partnered with food activist Alice Waters and friends to celebrate 40-years of the ‘Delicious Revolution’. Since 1971, Alice and her restaurant Chez Panisse have brought together farmers, producers, chefs, educators, journalists, politicians, and artists in an effort to transform the American food landscape and promote a healthy, sustainable future. Proceeds from the sales of the 100% organic cotton t-shirts help support the Edible Schoolyard, a national organization that integrates garden and kitchen education into grade-school curriculum.

It’s Still Better to Give & Receive

This is your perfect chance to give and get at the same time. You get the exclusive designer t-shirt and you give back to the world at the same time. What a great way to help children learn.

There is awesome news coming. I’m kind of getting excited about letting you know!

Wait…There’s more!

The partnership includes David Byrne, Sofia Coppola, Dave Eggers, and Maira Kalman along with Alice Waters to design a series of five completely organic cotton T-shirts in order to support Edible Education.

The shirts printed in a limited edition amount of 500. Proceeds from the sale of the shirts help support Edible Schoolyard, a national organization that merges garden and kitchen education with grade-school curriculum.

The shirts will be available the beginning of August online and at select Levi’s stores for $30.00 each. The shirts will have letter pressed hang-tags on handmade paper with organic seeds embedded within made by Porridge Papers.

Since You’ve Been Patient

So you’ve read all the good news, but I have even better news.

Hi Lady Pioneers!

Welcome!

This week is for all the ladies out there with jeans issues. I know how frustrating it can get when jeans don’t fit right or hug in the wrong places.

Then after trying on all those jeans you settle for that one OK pair of jeans.

Sound familar?

Let’s stop settling because it’s 2011 and we shouldn’t have to.

The thing is we ladies don’t all come with the same coke bottle figure, for that reason jeans should not come that way either!

So are you lady pioneers prepared to read and discover these magical jeans for you?

What is Levi’s Curve ID? Well I am going to let journalist Adam Tschorn of the Los Angeles Times explain.

For the last 18 months, the folks at Levi Strauss & Co. have studied women around the world, conducting thousands of interviews and looking at 60,000 body scans of women in 13 countries.

The company says the result — besides confirmation that for women, jeans shopping ranks right up there with buying bras and bathing suits as cause for angst — is a new global denim program that, by taking their curves into account, will provide nearly any woman with a five-pocket pair of jeans that feels custom-fit to her shape.

Called Curve ID, the line consists of three fits: a slight curve (for the woman who finds that regular jeans “fit in the hips and thighs but are too tight in the waist”), a demi curve (if jeans “usually fit in the waist but don’t flatter the figure”) and a bold curve (if jeans “fit in the hips and thighs, but gap in the back”). Although the official global launch date isn’t until Sept. 2, Levi’s Curve ID jeans are currently available at Levi’s stores in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Canoga Park and Torrance, as well as online.

“The fits that we’re launching with account for 80% of the women’s body shapes in the world,” Levi’s President Robert Hanson said. “And when we launch the fourth one — our most extreme curve — at the end of this year or early next year, then we’ll have 96% of women covered.”

Can you tell they all are wearing the same size?…No more settling lady pioneers!

What Levi’s Curve ID Are You?

Let me break it down to help out with any confusion.

Hi Pioneers!

Welcome Again!

Hope your week is going well! Were falling in to fall and winter seasons, and I bet you all are ready to take those riding boots out of your closets. I know that I am, so cold front bring it on!

Today I thought it would be nice to tell you all about our recent addition the 511 commuter skinny jeans for men….and women!

It’s generally worn by men but it made to work with women as well, but only a few ladies know that their unisex jeans.

I’ll be honest I didn’t know about them either until I started working for Levi’s two years ago and read, read, read all about the products.

I Want You To Meet Someone.

Her name is JeWon Yu.

She just happens to be the designer genius behind the Commuter collection.

In a Levi’s interview with JeWon she explained what she had in mind while designing these jeans.

“Simply put, the commuter on the bike- be it young, old, from all walks of life. So many types of people come to mind when I think about it, especially in the streets of San Francisco where this idea sprouted and where Levi’s® is located. I feel like this lifestyle transcends any kind of trend and is  something that anyone can participate in regardless of where you live, work, or play.  It’s all-inclusive much like the Levi’s®brand.”  said JeWon.

“I also wanted this product to be something that was attainable, understandable, and simple- nothing tricked up that had to come with a manual but I think there are a lot of little details the consumer will discover on their own that hopefully they will love.”

Meet The Jean.

The jeans are awesome! Tailored to the demand of urban cyclists, Levi’s has launched the Commuter Series. The collection includes the 511 Commuter Skinny Jeans (in khaki, grey and dark blue denim) and the Commuter Trucker Jacket.

Here is all you need to know about these innovative jeans, according to www.highsnobiety.com:

“The jeans have a U-lock storing waistband, and the waistband is raised to ensure against the ever unwanted crack attack. The jacket also features a slight tail for maximum coverage while hunched over, and has touring pockets in the back.

The line is a lot more than just crafty patternmaking though. Levi’s partnered with Swiss-based Schoeller Technologies AG to premier their NanoSphere treatment into Levi’s denim. NanoSphere is basically a super treatment that makes fabric both water-resistant and dirt repellant. Take that, add Clariant’s Sanitized treatment, and you get durability plus built-in odors protection, because, let’s face it, you get sweaty while biking. In addition to the double treated light-stretch denim, the pieces are completed with nifty sewing tricks like a reinforced stitching in high-stress areas (crotch, pockets, etc.), and reflective 3M Scotchlite fabric tape in key areas.”

Hi Lady Pioneers!

Oh la la

Just as i mentioned in last week’s blog, today is all about the ladies (sorry guys!) and the Levi’s 501 Boyfriend jeans of course.

Almost every retail clothing store you can possibly walk into today has some sort of Boyfriend jeans.

Story Time.

Let’s start with the term ‘Boyfriend Jeans’ or for short just the word ‘Boyfriend‘ and what the term means in the fashion world.

The Boyfriend jean is any basic style of woman’s clothing that is changed from a similar product of fashion of  the men’s department. The product examples include boyfriend jackets, boyfriend jeans and boyfriend blazers. Often the boyfriend styles are unisex or looser in appearance and fit than most woman’s jackets or trousers, though still designed for the female form.

Thoughts.

I think boyfriend jean are just awesome. I own about four to five pairs that are so fun to wear in so many different ways! Just look at how all the ladies in the photo below outfit their very own Levi’s 501 Boyfriend jeans.

News.

The start of the boyfriend fashion is really just borrowing and wearing your boyfriend’s clothes. This includes his distressed jeans, his band tees, his dress shirts, his blazers, his cardigan. The trend grew in 2009 when actress Katie Holmes was photographed in public wearing Tom Cruise’s slouchy jeans after a Broadway rehearsal. Currently, if you walk into a Levi’s store you can try on the 501 Boyfriend Collection that come in a 501 straight leg jean and even the newest addition the 501 Boyfriend Skinny.

Boyfriend Blazer.

There boyfriend blazer has two really fun ways to wear the look. First, by making it oversized, and rolling up the sleeves. The boyfriend trend is about wearing clothes that look a size too big for you. It is recommended to only go up one size. Second, by rolling up the sleeves, it makes the look more elegant and balances it out while implying that the sleeves would be too long for your arms. They are very versatile and can be worn with a cocktail dress, a skirt and blouse, or leggings.

What are you waiting for? Quick. Find your closest Levi’s Only Store!

So, since this is going to be my third or fourth (depending on how you look at it) blog post I wanted to pass on something to all of you that read my blog. It’s an actual assignment for you to do because I do it daily. If I could have gotten a dollar for it every time that I did it, I would probably be a millionaire (wishful thinking anyone?).

 Homework homework…Read all about it.

You’re assignment is to simply look for how many people you know and don’t know that are wearing Levi’s. So I feel it’s a fair assignment plus there is no grade and you can choose to do it or not do it. It’s all your choice!

Have fun searching for the ‘Arcuate’ and ‘Red Device’ Pioneers!

Hi Pioneers!

Have you heard of Levi’s 501′s in the denim world of men and women?

I will be talking about women’s 501′s next week lady pioneers!

Today I am going to fill you in on those nifty denim classics.

So it all started.

The Levi 501 denim jean was a design that Levi Strauss originally developed in the USA around 1872. Since then it has become the world’s most successful manufactured article of clothing. First used as a sturdy working garment for miners in California, that ‘blue jean’ is now worn all over the world from the mine to the boardroom, and is a symbol of the western lifestyle as it is a staple item in billions of wardrobe closets.

Then the rich and famous.

Pop and film celebrities like Elvis Presley, James Dean, and Marlon Brando (not to mention the singer Mark Wynter with “Venus in Blue Jeans”) stimulated the popularity of jeans as leisure wear. Then in 1964 a pair of Levi jeans entered into the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC.

The company’s enduring success rests partly on the appeal associated with their legendary American roots. It also has a role on their practicality as a versatile washable garment whose look actually improves with age. The Levi 501 is today is just one of thousands of models and brands of jean. It still remains the classic version and the origin of all its ‘designer’ imitations.

Denim Timeline

The connection of denim jeans with youth rebellion grew further when ‘college kids’ wore them during the sit-ins, love-ins, and civil rights and anti-war demonstrations of the 1960s. At the 1969 Woodstock music festival embroidered and sequinned jeans were worn to ‘make a statement’.

In the 1970s personalized bell-bottomed jeans grew with popularity in the ‘Flower Power’ era with their bells and whistles, then went upmarket as expensive designs become the rage in fashionable places. Even respectable adults wore denim. The ultimate manifestation of the adoption of denim by the affluent establishment was the ‘designer’ jeans which swept first America and then the Europe nation.

A big reaction came with the appearance of ‘destroyed’ denim in the 1980s. Chain stores promoted their own lines of jeans and endless new ‘labels’ were introduced. There was ‘acid wash’, and ‘stonewashed’, and baggy jeans, and then coming full circle Levi launched a “back to basics”" campaign to bring back the original 501. Jeans were bought by Yuppy-types who wanted to be seen wearing the right label, and by wealthy executives who enjoyed the idea of donning the original uniform of the authentic ‘working man’.

The 1990s saw the neat and classic look, and an added percentage of Lycra to enhance fit and comfort. The popularity of dark shades of blue alternated with washed-out shades. It’s can be hard to imagine a world without denim jeans, and clothing manufacturers will continue finding ways re-market the original Levi Strauss idea. Levi’s will still remain direct descendants of the original pair made in 1873.

Hi Pioneers!

Today jeans are practically a closet staple for most of us. We may have favorite jeans, dress up jeans and ripped jeans in our closets (the pair of jean most parents don’t seem to understand why their bought at full price). I don’t even want to get started about the shades that they come in. There are just to many shades and styles to count on one hand!

Have you ever wondered how those novelties started?

One word started it all – Overalls.

First we should go back for a bit of history to understand why overalls. In 1853, the 24 year old Levi Strauss, an immigrant from Germany left to New York and then San Francisco, with the mind-set of cashing in on the California Gold Rush that started in 1849.

Levi Strauss had canvas made into waist overalls. The gold miners liked the pant design, but said that they tended to irritate their skin. Strauss changed it to a twilled cotton cloth from France called “serge de Nimes.” The fabric became known as denim and the pants were what we call blue jeans.

Interesting right? Keep reading there’s more!

If you’re wearing jeans right now take a quick look at your front pockets. Notice the two rivets on both ends? Can you guess who invented them?

Jacob Davis invented the rivet and needed money to patent this invention because he felt that others were pirating his product. He turned to Levi Strauss telling him in a letter about his invention and his plans of patenting the copper rivet. Davis also offered to share the patent with Strauss. Levi Strauss  agreed and the both were granted a US Patent on May 20, 1873. The copper rivet may be small but it is mighty and is used to reinforce and strengthen jean pockets from ripping.

Now Levi’s got a patent what about the trademarks?

The “Arcuate” is also a Levi’s trademark. The double arch stitching on the back pockets had the company going in and out of the court to defend its trademark.

The red tab officially know as the “Tab Device” is an idea that happened 75 years ago today. The year was 1936 and National Sales Manager Chris Lucier came up with this idea to differentiate Levi’s jeans from other competitors. The Tab Device was registered as a trademark in 1938 and were first used on Levi’s jackets.

Happy Anniversary Levi’s!

Next time you’re in your Levi’s Store look for them!

Today the Levi’s brand models the classic western American style. The blue jeans have become the most recognizable clothing in the world. It has inspired the imagination and loyalty of people for generations. The rivet patent has expired but Levi’s continues to grow and change with creative and hard workers in the apparel world. They provide jeans wear and accessories that are available in more than 110 countries! Levi’s let’s you and people around the world to express their own style.
